Thesis Abstract

A Right-Brain Approach to Career Exploration: Keeping the Channel Open

This thesis describes the uses, benefits, and applications of the arts with career exploration as ways as creating meaning out of personal and professional lives. True to the holistic quality of the right-brain, it provides a "big picture" of the intentions to explore this topic as well as why, in a larger context, it is imperative that self-knowledge be accessed in the present-day marketplace. The data is derived from a 2-part study: qualitative interviews with 5 career counselors or people in related professions and a pilot workshop incorporating the findings from the interviews. It concludes with an integration of the knowledge gained through the interviews, the workshop, and the author's process.

There is a need for more recognition of the value of inner experience with career exploration. More research in this area will fill a profound gap between person and profession, and assist in the movement towards integration and health.
